The basic technology with respect to the offered innovations is the so called CIS- or CIGS thin film technology for photovoltaic solar applications, which is well known from decades of R&D- and manufacturing activities over the world.

CIGS is the acronym for the most important layer of this type of solar cell - the chalcopyrite semiconductor (absorber) consisting of Copper, Indium, Gallium and Selenium. A wide range of modifications is applied in R&D and industry, which can be roughly summarized in the formula Cu (In1-x,Gax)(Se1-y,Sy)2 where Se/S name Selenium and Sulphur resp., and x / y can be adjusted in a controlled manner to values from 0 to 1 depending on the technology applied. The CIGS technology background here also comprises the penternary chalcopyrites containing Sulphur.
